A Big Move for Sugr!

Sugr is growing! A couple weeks ago we said goodbye to our trusted old office and started a new phase of life in a brand new space that gives us room to keep on expanding.  Check out these pics! What do you guys think? Did we mention we have a ping pong table?? The office change was long awaited, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. It serves as a great symbol for the additional capabilities we are adding to Sugr Cube. We are happy to announce that the Android App is officially on par with our iOS version! It took time, but Android users now have all the functionality that Apple users of the Sugr App had. Enjoy and let us know what you think! In the end, whether about our move or the app, the point we are at in our business can only be described as one growth: growth in product quality, growth in business, and growth as people. We are constantly working to better develop a premium WiFi speaker, and that means learning plenty along the way. Enjoy the new features! Can’t wait to hear what you think...

Spooooky Halloween Contest from Team Sugr!

Hello Sugr Community! As our American users of Sugr Cube Music Speakers are certainly aware of, this week is the spookiest holiday of them all…. Halloween! Pumpkins, candy, haunted houses, costumes, and more make this holiday the perfect combination of sweet and scary. As the name Sugr Cube likely implies, we love the sweet part of this haunted holiday, but we are also very big fans of everything scary. That’s why we are asking you all to contribute your spookiest, creepiest, most haunting and horrible scary stories to us!  Whoever has the scariest story wins a very sweet surprise. Like big bag of candy of your choice sweet ;). Scary stories that make us laugh are also acceptable (pranks going wrong always make for great material!). Honestly, the engineers have been working way too hard on Sugr Cube Speaker updates and advancements, so it’s time we bring them a bit of the “holiday spirit” and scare them senseless (muahaha).  We’ll make sure to take plenty of terrified pictures! Make sure to like us on FB or Twitter (click on the hyperlinks if you aren’t already following us!) and message us there with your tale of ghosts, monsters, or whatever crazy stories you can concoct for us in order to enter. Thanks guys! And finally…   Happy (almost) Halloween from Team...

Meeting Team Sugr: Sean Song, CEO and Founder

This is the first interview in the “Meeting Team Sugr” series, which will introduce Sugr users to the people behind Sugr Cube, the world’s first touch-based WiFi speaker. This interview is with Sean Song, CEO and founder of Sugr Corporations. Q: So Sean, where did the idea of Sugr Cube come from exactly? A: In 2013, I was playing some soothing music for my 1 year-old son, when suddenly the wireless speaker I was using was interrupted by a phone call from my smartphone. Texts, phone calls, all these notifications were interrupting the music, so I started to explore new speakers, hoping to find one with a solution for such hassles. As I was searching, I happened to find some beautifully designed wooden speakers. When I laid eyes on them, I was suddenly brought back to a chance encounter I had over 10 years before. In the winter of 2003, I was working as a digital audio software engineer and had flown to Israel to meet my colleagues there for the first time. On the return flight, I sat next to an old, silver haired Israeli gentleman. He saw my iPod and started to chat with me. He was an audio engineer too, as well as a speaker craftsman, who handmade wooden speakers in his spare time. Having the same interest, we spoke for over 10 hours. He shared his thoughts of what made good speakers and good sound. Having done analog work for recording studios in Europe, he had designed many high-end, customized wooden speakers. Under the dim plane lights, as he shared his vast knowledge and opinions,...

Setup Wi-Fi in 5 seconds

At Sugr, we had bad experiences to setup wireless speakers. Did you? For a Wi-Fi speakers, below steps are usually needed: 1. Power on the device and it will work as an AP or router (let’s say its SSID is “Painful Wi-Fi”); 2. Connect that “Painful Wi-Fi” using your PC or iPad; 3. Then open a browser and type in 192.168.1.1; 4. A webpage will be promoted to you and you need to input the home SSID and password; 5. After that, the device will reboot and try to connect to your home Wi-Fi. This link shows exactly such complex experience. However, at Sugr, we pursue simplicity! We invented the simplest way for Wi-Fi password set-up by using Sound Recognition Technology. Here’s the demo: Setting Wi-Fi password is JUST 5-second.
